Natural Selection
According to dictionary.com, natural selection is said to be "the process by which forms of life having traits that better enable them to adapt to specific environmental pressures, as predators, changes in climate, or competition for foor or mates, will ten to survive and reproduce in greater numbers than others of their kind, thus ensuring the perpetuation of those favorable traits in succeeding generations" (1).
In other words, it is every snake for themselves, survival of the fittest. Who ever is best suited with adaptations for the certain area, will beat the other species that cannot compare to them. The better suited specie will reproduce to make a population of the most surviving specie.

Evolution of the Milk Snake
Speciation is the formation of new and distinct species in the course of evolution. Proof of snake evolution is, according to Bob Strauss the first snake recorded was an Eupodophis, it was equipped with tiny hind legs (2). From then on the snake after it had legs, but due to evolutionary changes snakes slowly lost they limbs and started to slither. The proof we have of these snakes from ages ago are found in fossils.
