Digestive System For Snakes:
How Snakes Digest Food:
1. Unhinge jaw.
2. Swallow prey whole from mouth.
3. Salivary glands help to moisten the prey.
4. Prey past through the buccal cavity into the esophagus.
5. Peristaltic movement(1) in the esophagus helps with the movement of the prey.
6. Prey is moved into the stomach.
7. In the stomach digestive enzymes break down proteins.
8. Food is then moved into the pyloric valve(2).
9. From the pyloric valve the food is then moved into the small intestine.
10. Nutrients are absorbed in small intestine.
11. Liver excretes enzymes to the small intestine to digest food.
12. Food then moves to the large intestine through the caecum.
13. Water in absorbed in the large intestine.
14. The waste is excreted through the cloaca chamber.
